Joshua Morris, Mental Health Counseling Student Intern
Joshua Morris is a Student Clinical and Mental Health Intern that is completing his final year of education to attain his Masters in Clinical and Mental Health Counseling at Liberty University. Joshua graduated from Houghton University with his Bachelor's of Science degree in Theology with a Concentration in Pastoral Ministries and a Minor in Family Psychology. Joshua grew up most of his life in Watertown, New York near Fort Drum home of the 10th Mountain Army Division, where he experienced the beauty of Upstate New York and its harsh, cold winters. The oldest son of three to two loving parents, Joshua understands the importance of family and has first hand experience of how mental illness can impact family life with various relatives having been diagnosed with depression, ADHD, Bipolar I & II, and anxiety. This experience has fueled Joshua's mission to helping people work through life's struggles and develop effective coping mechanisms to face life's challenges.
Joshua has had prior work experience working with children, adolescents, college students, and young adults; he is open to help and work with anyone from any background or age. His passion is helping people that struggle with anxiety, depression, and Bipolar I & II. Joshua operates from a collaborative approach wanting to walk alongside his client as together they journey down the path that counseling will bring them. He believes that every person has the ability to help improve their overall wellness in life, and he desires to help clients lean into their strengths as they work to better face their challenges and struggles. Joshua follows primarily the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy model, or CBT, which believes an individual's thought processes affect their behaviors and that retraining the brain can lead to better quality of life. He believes that everyone has the ability to be mindful of their thought processes and develop better coping mechanisms to deal with life's struggles and stress. With his background in religious studies Joshua is open to offering Christian integrated counseling, but first and foremost respects his client's wishes and leaves that decision up to the client; readily open to offer counseling with no religious focus.
