Geron Rogers
Mdiv, MS, LMHC
Geron was raised by a single mother with his three older sisters in the deep south. He still values the peace and charm that is still a key element of that region. He attended two universities finally graduating with a bachelor’s degree in philosophy, theology and psychology in 1984. He continued his educational preparation at a prominent theological seminary in the Midwest, earning a Masters of Divinity degree in 1987. Following graduation, Geron spent 22 years leading churches across the Southeast & Midwest United States where he developed a profound love for helping people face and work through the various challenges of life. Here he gained & honed, skills, experience, and knowledge that have been integral to his focus on helping individuals resolve mental health issues.
Geron’s personal and professional experiences with the pains of life have taught him that the human mind and spirit are vast reservoirs of hope and resiliency. His decision, at 50 years of age, to change careers and return to school, eventually earning an MS in psychology in 2011, are a testimony to the indomitable spirit within humanity that he hopes to reach in others. Remarried just before beginning that life change, he and his wife Valarie (also a mental health counselor) have a busy life attending to the lives of their five children, eight grandchildren and the clients they serve.
Geron approaches the counseling process from a primarily existential perspective. He believes that every person carries within them their perfect self. He realizes that a person’s perfect self is often clouded over with the pain, fear, and tragedy that can accompany a life lived in a hectic and fast paced world. His goal is to walk with and gently guide his clients down a path of self-discovery that will bring them into full view and realization of their own worth, essence, and purpose. Geron believes that it is only in the discovery of our own uniqueness that we can overpower the pain and tragedy in life and even become empowered by it. For Geron, life is the ultimate journey that should be taken with hungry minds, open eyes and hands raised in awe.
